Also known as simply 'Sclerema'.

  • A clinical sign rather than a disease.

Describes the appearance of indurated sub-cutaneous fat in sick neonates.

  • May be due to an increase in saturated fat content of sub-cutaneous fat.
  • Reportedly correlates with a high mortality rate.
  • The Greek skleros means hard.
